Dear Friends of lslesboro Affordable Property
Islesboro comes alive in April.
The roads evolve from frozen to muddy. The ducks begin to roam on foot, build their nests, and arrogantly claim right-of-way on our roads. Crocuses, daffodils and bloodroot poke through the loam. The Osprey return from Florida. The humans stare up at the sun in relief.
Spring 2026 reveals two new LAP houses (The Schnur Cottages) and two new apartments (The Town Center Duplex).
These homes are complete, occupied and paid for thanks to your generous support. You have made a material difference in the lives of 15 people.
Four families will remain on lslesboro, as full-time residents, to work for the town, the store, the fire department, the ambulance service, the boatyard, contractors, plumbers, the preschool and other critical positions. Children who attend the lslesboro Central School are in new homes this spring.
IAP Capital Campaign
Over the past 12 months, the lslesboro community has donated more than $1 million towards our goal of $1.7 million. During that time, the IAP board has driven the completion of the homes outlined above. IAP continues to work with the town's Housing Committee, the lslesboro Economic Sustainability Corporation, the lslesboro School Committee and the town's Energy Committee to highlight the need for additional workforce housing with a goal to ensure the long-term sustainability of the Island.
Consistent with our original goal, we will begin construction on a SECOND structure for The Town Center Duplexes as soon as we have the funds. The road, well, and power infrastructure are already built. All we need to build this second set of apartments is $700,000. Please reach out to me or any board member directly if you would like a tour or to contribute in any way. Our information is listed below.
Our Board members have held one-on-one meetings with donors, led tours of the IAP houses/construction sites, produced the 2024 Beatles Concert at Brigham Orchard, and held the "Coffee & Carpenters" event on August 9th. We will continue these activities until we reach our goal and the second Town Center Duplex is complete.
Every dollar donated goes directly to building homes that will remain affordable for working families. Donations can be spread out over time. We accept checks, wire transfers, appreciated securities and Donor Advised Funds. Today we have received donations from multiple foundations, family offices, trusts, and individuals ranging from $25 to $200.000. Regardless of the size, every donation is a signal of support to our unique island.
Together, we can ensure lslesboro remains a thriving, year-round community.
Please consider a donation to allow us to continue building affordable housing.
