IAP Rental Info & Application

Thank you for your interest in applying to Islesboro Affordable Property's housing inventory. Filling out this application is the first step in securing an affordable housing property. If your application meets certain criteria, and there is available inventory, you will be asked to submit additional information including tax returns, bank statements, and a monthly budget. 

IAP accepts applications even when we do not have current housing available. Your application is date recorded when received. IAP does not have a policy of “first-come, first-served,” as each rental has distinct characteristics that are suitable to different household sizes, and can have different rents. When a residence becomes available, you will be contacted at that time and asked to verify that the information on this application is still current.

Please note that preference is given to applicants currently working in Islesboro, and/or who intend to live and work here full-time.

IAP relies solely on monies received from generous donations or from state / federal grants. The rents charged are based on what is required to break even on the expenses each property requires— taxes, insurance, and essential maintenance.  IAP does not subsidize housing rents. In the case of housing constructed with government funds applicant income levels cannot exceed limits set by the granting organization.  Those limits typically range from 80% to 120% of Waldo County’s area median income.

Once an applicant is approved and advised of a move-in date IAP will require a remittance equal to two months’ rent. The remittance covers the first month’s rent plus a one-month security deposit. The security deposit will be returned to the renter upon termination of the lease (less any cost of repairs that exceed normal wear and tear)
